According to data from Statista Research Department in June 2022, the number of people hiking from 2006 to 2020 in the United States was 57.81 million, most of which were Americans. The United States of America is the second country in the world where Nepal started its diplomatic relations. Nepal established its Embassy in Washington, DC, in 1958. After that, in August 1959, the US opened its embassy in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Jim Whittaker, age 34, became the first American to summit Everest elite mountaineers in 1963. The team included 19 members, including scientists, photographers, and writers, but all were fit to climb the mountain.
On May 12, 2022, the Full Circle group, led by Philip Henderson from California, became the first all-black team to stand atop Everest summit and become the first black team to stand atop planet's highest mountain. The group of eight were followed by eight Sherpas, who guided them to the summit point. The team members who reached the summit were Manoah Ainuu, Frederick Campbell, Eddie Taylor, James Kagambi, Desmond Mullins, and Thomas Moore. Despite Henderson's leadership, he did not attempt to summit the mountain himself but led the team from base camp.
